Commissioned by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and premiered by Ensemble Musikfabrik.
Splice is a piece in five movements. It is concerned with two simple formal concepts, the opposition of extremes and the permuation of the similar. These formal ideas are apparent both within each movement and in the relationships between the movements. I was interested in the impossibility of encompasing “everything” in one single work, the idea that by writing a piece you also imply the existence of whatever the piece is not.
